Which products make up an external wall insulation system?
Choosing a board alone is not enough for external wall insulation. The board must be bonded to the existing substrate with a suitable adhesive, anchored according to wind load, and protected by alkali-resistant mesh and a render layer. The decorative final finish completes the system's protection against outdoor conditions.
Components must suit the same application conditions for adhesion, crack control and long-term facade performance. When calculating quantities, adhesive, render, mesh, anchors, corner profiles and finish requirements should therefore be calculated alongside the boards.
How do you choose stone wool, EPS or XPS?
Stone wool facade insulation boards are preferred where fire safety, sound absorption and vapour permeability are priorities. Graphite-enhanced EPS boards offer low weight, easy installation and economical thermal insulation. XPS boards are considered for plinths and moisture-exposed details requiring low water absorption and mechanical strength.
